Why should you use dustless bead blasting for your pool tile cleaning?
Pool owners are often confronted with the negative effects that running water has on their beautifully designed pools. The sad reality is, that the water, and the minerals carried within that water, will leave residue on everything the water touches. Typically, that residue will manifest itself as a white, scaled sediment on the surface of the tiles.
Homeowners, and pool pros alike, have attempted various methods of pool tile cleaning to remove this sediment. These methods include concentrated chlorine, muriatic acid, store-bought tile cleaning solutions, wire brushes, and pumice stones. Even the use of a hammer and chisel has been tried!! These efforts and methods are largely futile, with inconsistent and ineffective results.
Another, more daunting problem, affecting pool tile in SE Florida, is a process called efflorescence. Efflorescence results from a lack of proper waterproofing behind the tile, which allows the concrete shell of the pool, to seep calcium and salts from the wet Florida climate, in through the backs of the tiles. A concrete pool shell is continually getting wet and then drying, as rainfall soaks the earth. This repetitive process, leads to the movement of natural minerals through the concrete shell. Ideally, these minerals should not penetrate into the pool tiles, and should be stopped by the waterproofing materials applied during the initial pool construction. However, If the waterproofing was applied improperly, the minerals and elements will pass through the tile grout lines, until they meet the air and water on the surface of the tile, causing the unsightly sediment. It most commonly appears as a stubborn ring of scale, circling around the entire pool, just above the waterline.
Effloroescence leaves behind a very robust, hard material that is tedious and difficult to remove. However, the dustless blasting process is completely successful at removing scale, as well as the more problematic efflorescence. It is hands-down the most productive and efficient pool tile cleaning method!
To answer your next question: Unfortunately, Yes, the efflorescence is going to return and the blasting process will need to be repeated after a number of years. If the waterproofing problem behind the tiles isn’t rectified, the seeping process will continue to occur.
As a result, a homeowner is left with three choices:
The Logical choice is clear!
Dustless bead blasting uses high volumes of compressed air at low pressure. This process removes scale and efflorescence from ceramic tile, glass tile, and stone without damaging the surface. The glass beads used in this process, have been determined by the FDA to be inert and completely safe for people, animals and plants.
ANP Tile Blasting will arrive on your property and begin the process, by first lowering the pool level 6” – 8”. Once our team has completed the pool tile cleaning, the pool itself will be cleansed of any blast residue, and the surrounding patio & deck area will be washed to remove any bead blast overspray. The pool will be left spotless, and ready to be refilled and rebalanced, and the tile will look brand new!!
